The Bicol Christian College was started in 1975 under the Ago Medical and Educational Center by Dr. Damaceno J. Ago. He wanted to successfully educate the young folks of the Bicol region so that they would be morally upright and in a position to come up with innovative ideas that would benefit the society at large. The campus of the Bicol Christian College of Medicine campus is located at the Legazpi region which is at a distance of 500 kms from Manila, the capital. This is one of the 17 regions of the country and is constituted of four provinces three of which are, - the south-eastern end of Luzon Island, and two island-provinces adjacent to the peninsula. Legazpi is the capital of the region and also the administrative and the political centre.
It also has a Graduate School of Health.The MBBS course in India is termed as Doctor of Medicine or M.D. and is expanded over a time span of 4 years. This is preceded by a 14 months long course on Pre-Medicine which has to be attended by all candidates of the MBBS program. On completion of this course, students have to clear the NMAT exams, post which they can start studying for the M.D. course. The main areas of study in this course are Human Anatomy, Biochemistry, Parasitology, Physiology, Gynacelogy, Pharmacology, Obstetrics, Paediatrics, General Medicine, Community Health, Medical Practice, Preventive Medicine, Psychiatry, etc. Training is rendered through classroom lectures, group discussions and laboratory preparations. Students are also given a chance to diagnose actual patients under the supervision of expert doctors at the AGO Medical Centre or other hospitals and health care institutions which the college is tied up with.
