The Cagayan State University is the largest university in the region considering the number of students who enrol every year and the number of programs on offer. It is also the only and also the first state run institution for higher learning in the Cagayan Valley. The Cagayan Valley College of Arts & Trades and the Northern Luzon State College of Agriculture were merged in 1976 to form the Cagayan State University. Courses which were under the direction of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports were brought under the system of the university. A lot of important steps were taken towards betterment of the system of learning at the university.
There are a number of graduate, post graduate, vocational and health programs at the university. The College of Medicine and Surgery is located in Tuguegarao, Northern Philippines. The two main courses at the university are – a Doctor of Medicine with a traditional curriculum and a graduate degree as Masters in Public Health. A licensed training and teaching agency of the government’s Department of Health has been started by the CSU College of Medicine in association with the Cagayan Valley Medical Center.
