The oldest medical university of Russia, Kazan State Medical University was founded in the year 1814. The university is a multi-level, multi-functional institute which aims at meeting the needs of both individual students as well as the state in terms of studies in life science and medicine. The board of the medical department of the Imperial University of Kazan met and decided to start an independent institute with the faculties of Medicine and Sanitation. The departments of Paediatrics, Dental, Pharmaceutical, Social Work, Management and Higher Nursing Education, Biomedical, Postgraduate Education and Working with Foreign Students were found later on.
The institute received a university status in the year 1994. Currently, the university follows the rules of higher education and research dictated by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. Kazan State Medical University provides education which is in accordance with the certificates and licenses of the Federal Service for Supervision of Education and Science. The standard of education is high; degrees are accredited and meet the European standards which guarantee a certain quality of education.
International students can hope to get admission to the Kazan State Medical University’s courses either through international treaties or through the admission quotas of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. Applicants have to appear for an interview or admission test to prove their skills in the Russian language and Chemistry. This has to be fulfilled for an admission into the institute. A preparatory course precedes each course and this lasts for about 10 months. Here, students are taught about the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Russian. Hostel facility is available to students of the university, barring the ones under the preparatory department, residency, interns and those studying post-graduate courses. The hostel has rooms on twin and triple sharing basis.
